A Genuine Sherpherd

Brother Ittai I have known a bit as having Hong Kong as a second home, I have also visited and lived there for about 2 months in my early days of marriage. However I still remember the very first day I met him in Tsim sha shui MTR in 1989. He picked me up to bring me to a home meeting. I was a little taken back by his physically limitation but I was so refreshed by his smile, which is his ‘trademark’ if I may say. Truly a smiling face is enough to cherish and sherphered others (both he and sister 秀群 are so alike in this). They came to our marriage in Singapore which I still remember clearly. But the most impressive today (though I was not at all then) was he always start his speaking with words like ‘God’s economy, God’s dispensing’ etc. At the beginning I was not impressed. But slowly I realise that was what brother Witness Lee spoke of the need to sherpherd others with the high peak truth. He had the reality and served with a vision, while I was just a young man, still seeking other things. He also brought me to his small tiny house in diamond Hill, I was flabbergasted. They are still so joyful. It made me feel there are truly overcomers, living as sojourners on this earth looking for that city. To me he is not an eloquent person but a true sherpherd inward and outwardly. Thru the genuiness and sincerity, he was truly as 1 Peter 5:1-2 said sherphered the flock of God according to God without base means but eagerly.

I was filled with expectation to visit him as I also learned of his cancer diagnosis, about the same time as mine, but that he had turned better, so that I had great hope and expectations. But when I heard of his going, it was a shock and was filled with sadness (as I was running behind him in the matter of sickness, metaforically but also being encouraged by him) but the Lord assured me that he has ran his course and he will receive the unfading crowd of glory when the Chief Sherpherd appears. It is my responsibility to run mine now… May the Lord remember sister Cheng at this hour and the family and also the church of God in Hong Kong. He has been a pattern to me and I pray to follow his footsteps for the rest of my life, even so a little, I am satisfied. Thank you.
